I have seen the following idea on the internet which is actually where I found it...so it may be old news to you...but if not, I encourage you to try it. The children love it and we have had many special moments in our class with this idea. I use it when we have a visitor to our class. You will need a small box with a lid. God provided a decorative box about 6" by 6" as well as a mirror I had gotten from an Estee Lauder cosmetic gift. It fit perfectly, but then again, that is God. Ok, so then you put your mirror inside the box and close the lid. I get down in the floor and ask the child to kneel down with me and with my eyes looking into theirs...you say to the child something like....do you know that what I have in this box is the most important valuable thing to God? That's right, right inside this little box in the second grade room in Somerset, Ky....is sooooo important to God. He treasures it soooooo much. God loves what is in this box soooooo much....do you want to see what is so special to God? By this time usually the child is already reaching for the box, some are more reserved than others...but I have never seen a child just not be delighted when he or she looks in the box and sees themself in the mirror. I then follow with, what do you see and they usually say "me" and then you say, that is right and don't ever forget how important you are to God and how much He loves you. Sometimes you will get a child that says he sees a mirror...I simply respond with ok, but what is in that mirror? Then you get the "me" that you are looking for. What you say of course can vary...and I have found the more variation I use with my voice the better...but the children love it....and I have had adults comment as well on how it has touched their heart.
