Can You Imagine

There was a very large crowd following the man they called Jesus. He had just come across the sea. Everyone was saying he did miracles. A young lad was in the crowd. He too wanted to see this Jesus. Jesus went up on a mountain and sat with the men who were with him, they were called his disciples. This meant they were being taught by Jesus. The young lad also went up on the mountain. After all, if you had been there would you have walked away from Jesus?

When Jesus saw the crowd of people, he asked one of his disciples, Peter, where they could buy bread so the people could eat. Peter answered him that it would take more than 200 pennyworth, which today would be about $34, to even begin to feed the people, and they did not have the money.

Andrew, who was Peter’s brother and another disciple, spoke up saying there was a lad there with five loaves and two small fishes. Andrew did not think that would help, but the lad was willing to share or Andrew would never have said anything.

Jesus said they were to sit down, now there were over 5,000 men and then women and children, yet Jesus gave thanks and broke the bread and fish, handing it to the disciples who passed it out to the people.

After everyone was finished and had eaten their fill, Jesus told his disciples to gather up what was left so nothing would be wasted. They gathered twelve baskets full. Can you imagine?

When all was finished, Jesus went of to a mountain, he did not want them to make a King of him for what he had done. He had simply met the need of the people.

But what about the young lad? Nothing more is said about him, but can you imagine with me? This young man had given what he had to the Lord. He did not know all the things about Jesus that we know today. He was just willing to share what he had with others. Can you imagine having given such as he did and watching it become enough to feed that many people and still have food left over? Do you think he went around bragging about what he gave? I don't think so, I think he just went on about his business happy he had been able to help Jesus. Because if he had been the kind of person who bragged, he would not have let Andrew speak for him. He would have made a big show of what he was doing.

NO! I believe he did the same as Jesus, just walked away knowing he had done right and not wanting a fuss made about it.

Could you do for Jesus without caring if anyone ever knew what you had done? When we do the blessings are greater. When we make a fuss about it and want everyone to make a fuss over us and say what a wonderful thing we have done, then we have already received our reward. The silent ones will receive their reward in heaven. Can you imagine what that will be?
