Mark 4:37-41
The children love this lesson. Arrange the children's chairs in your class room in double columns with an isle in the middle.
They are going to be sitting in an imaginary boat. After the children have been seated, explain to them that for today's lesson they will be using their imaginations. They must begin to imagine they are seated in a boat and first they must paddle with their oars. You may want to set the scene up for them with your words before you begin in the scripture. Let them know that when they hear you say "peace be still" that all movement and noise must stop. Continue with making exaggerated motions of rowing your boat. As they do this start reading from Mark 4:37. So, once they have gotten the hang of rowing and you get to the part about the storm building, then you add that they must now make sounds of wind blowing...because a storm starts is starting to build. You then have them make the sounds of wind blowing while they are rowing. Then of course the boat will rock from the waves...so the children must begin moving from side to side as they rock. Then once you have them rowing, wind blowing, rocking and as you continue to read from your Bible...have another worker standing in the back of the room...(here is the fun part)...have the worker start spraying the children with water out of a small spray bottle. The children will of course start squealing in delight as they briefly get wet. Often they will beg you to spray them after you have stopped. You will not have to be concerned either about them getting "too wet" in their "Sunday clothes". The spray bottled will not get them wet enough to be concerned with, just to have fun. Once the excitement has calmed down...you get to the part about Jesus saying "Peace be still"...then you begin speaking with them about how He calmed the storm and how He can calm the storms in their lives as well. You need to go in depth about the storms in their lives...depending on the age group give some examples of what the children may be dealing with...
I hope this is a blessing to you.
